Ensembled 'Winged Creatures' Trailer is Obvious Oscar Bait
Of course, it still has to be a good movie
I can't quite tell if Winged Creatures is going to be a coincidence style film in the way Crash was or just a story centered on one singular tragic moment that focuses on the aftermath of said event throughout. The just released trailer for the feature shows serious promise it touts a huge ensemble cast including Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce, Forest Whitaker, Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Hudson, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Embeth Davidtz. Rowan Woods directed the film, but his cred is limited to some "Farscape" episodes and this is screenwriter Roy Freirich's first time out. All of this tells me this is a trailer with an idea, but on a script level there must be some reason it didn't end up at one of the larger indie houses.
The film centers on the witnesses to a brutal murder suicide in a fast food restaurant as they cope with the aftermath of the incident and how they affect the people who help them along the way.
There is potential for it, but it may be nothing more than that. Give it a watch and tell me what you think. To my knowledge there is still no official release date.

hmmm, looks kinda interesting actually. I wonder when it'll be released.
It looks interesting, great cast….but does anyone feel like we've seen this before? I can't quite place it…but it just feels rehashed.
I know someone who has seen it and he hated Crash and Babel. He really liked this one and said everyone did a solid job acting. So who knows???
Amazing cast. I love Whittaker, Pearce, and Haley so I'll definitely be checking this out. Looks like Kevin Durand is in there too. I don't like Dakota Fanning or Jennifer Hudson but I can put up with them for the rest of the excellent cast.
One thing about Dakota Fanning though, she has grown up quite a bit since you last saw her. She showed up briefly at Comic Con in support of Push and she has certainly changed. It will be interesting to see if she can transition from child actress into an adult superstar.
This film is also Hudson's first real chance to shine in a real acting role. Dreamgirls was more of a music video and Sex and the City was pretty much fluff (even though she did a good job). This, however, seems like more of a real actor's role.
The movie certainly looks interesting. Crash was a decent film, definitly not best film material, so these types of movies tend to be hyped up a lot. But with a solid cast and a decent story and director this film can be quite good. And any film with Forest Whitaker (unless its Vantage Point) and Guy Pearce is interesting to check out.
