Ellen Page Bringing Bronte's 'Jane Eyre' to Life

Really, we need this?

It takes three paragraphs before we get to the real story in Variety's article announcing Ellen Page as the featured star in BBC's adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre."

"Jane Eyre" is one of the most adapted novels in English literature, with at least 20 previous film or TV versions.

The obvious solution to this would be to never adapt it again, but that just isn't going to happen. The most recent version, to my knowledge, was in 2006 with Ruth Wilson playing the lead role and it was broadcast on… yup, the BBC. It won three Emmys, but that isn't good enough… we need an Oscar!

This isn't a measly TV mini-series, this is a feature film even though a director is not yet attached and the team behind The Other Boleyn Girl is set to produce the story of a mousy governess who softens the heart of her surly employer Mr. Rochester, only to discover that he's hiding a terrible secret.

The screenplay was penned by Moira Buffini, who really doesn't have anything of not to her name.

Despite there isn't a director attached the aim is to get underway this fall.
