Elisabeth Shue is Gobbled Up By 3-D Pirahna
Let's hope she at least gets top billing
It's astonishing to learn Elisabeth Shue has now signed on to star in Alexandre Aja's remake Piranha 3-D. I don't say this because I am not looking forward to the film, because I am, but because Shue had made a career for herself after I remember seeing her for the first time in 1984 in The Karate Kid, then in 1987's Adventures in Babysitting, followed by her co-starring role with Tom Cruise in Cocktail (a guilty pleasure of mine), she played Jennifer in Back to the Future Part II and III and in 1995 she hit the pinnacle as she was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in Leaving Las Vegas. Fast forward to today and the last time I saw her she was playing herself in the vastly over-rated Hamlet 2.
I guess I should look at what happened as a natural progression. Roles in Hollow Man and Hide and Seek can lead a career to this and like I said, it's not that I am not looking forward to Piranha, it's just that I would like to see Shue do something a little more worthy.
Confirmation of the casting comes from Moviehole after rumors of the casting began making the rounds on the horror-related movie websites last week such as FEARnet. Clint at Moviehole got the report from a couple of people very close to the film, including one of the film's writers. The report reads as follows:
Shue is playing the role of Sheriff Julie Forester, a take-charge authority figure in the community of Lake Victoria – where the action/ankle-biting takes place. She's the mother of Jake (one of the central characters in the film – the shy teenager who gets to prove his worth when human-eating fish threaten his family and friends), Laura and Zane.
Last I heard Piranha had a March 19, 2010 release date through Dimension Films.
In other casting news out of Moviehole we learn Tara Reid will reprise her role as Vicki Lathum in the direct-to-dvd sequel, American Pie: Skank Patrol. See, now that makes sense.

If I could only meet the Legendary Elizabeth Shue I would say to her these very words…
I've just closed my eyes again
Climbed aboard the dream weaver train
Driver take away my worries of today
And leave tomorrow behind
Dream weaver I believe you can get me trough the night
Dream weaver I believe we can reach the morning light
