The Village is a Buena Vista Home Entertainment release and is rated PG-13.

The running time is 1 hr. 48 mins.

In my theatrical review of The Village I mentioned that I didn't think anyone "would come out of the theaters hating this film, but I also believe many will come out thinking they would have been just as impressed if they had waited for it to come out on DVD."

It is now time to see if my prediction was true or not as The Village comes to DVD in all its plot twisting glory to either upset or impress home video audiences.

My theatrical review went as far as I could possibly go in telling the story of The Village without ruining the plot twists so for that just click here, but lets talk about the DVD's misgivings as more features would have made this film an even better buy.

Recently making the number 10 spot on my Worst 10 Films of 2004 list The Village is a film that never reaches the potential its trailers promised. The reason I still give the movie praise is because of the performances turned in by several key actors and the overall creepy look of the film and the excellent use of sound effects.

With those things said I was hoping for a deeper look into the making of The Village along with some commentary tracks, yet is all we are treated to is a short group of featurettes, which while interesting do not bring to life what a Shyamalan and Dallas Howard commentary would have added.

Having one of the better female performances of the year is what makes The Village an appealing buy, but it seems like Buena Vista is holding back for a Special Edition release of this one. While this is considered one of Buena Vista's "Vista Series" DVDs I think there is more to come considering Unbreakable, a far more disappointing film than The Village received a rather large 2-Disc Special Edition already.
