Tru Calling: The Complete First Season is a Fox Home Entertainment release and is rated .
I had heard a lot about "Tru Calling" from friends that enjoyed the show, but I had yet to catch an episode so I was seeing this one for the first time when I popped in the first disc, before that is all I knew is that Eliza Dushku was hot, and was in that horrible movie Wrong Turn last year.

Luckily the story of a girl who has the power to change the future by talking to the dead isn't as bad as at may seem and the show's creators were able to see just when it was fading and were able to kick start some life back into the final episodes to give audiences reason to come back for more.

"Tru Calling" is the story of Tru Davies, pun intended, she is a bit of an odd bird as her only power is not that of seduction, but she has the ability to change the future by reliving the past. But it isn't that simple. Not only does she have this power, she has a past that haunts her, from the murder of her mother in front of her own eyes to the dysfunctional relationship she has with her father, and as the season goes on you get more and more insight into the history of Tru Davies and ultimately learn more about the darkness that lies there than she does.

Packed with all 20 of the first season episodes this is a much better television show than I originally anticipated, but at the same time it is a bit over the top. Putting aside the fact that Tru experiences "rewind" days, there are several instances where you simply get frustrated with yelling at the television, "JUST GO OVER THERE AND TELL THEM TO LOOK OUT!!" So, once you get past the initial excitement of a new and cool television series the plot begins to get redundant until finally they throw in the monkey wrench that is Jason Priestly.

Yup, "90210" is back for a new show and he is certainly going to be the driving force behind the second season, but then again will there be a second season?

Word has it that there were only six episodes shot for the second season of "Tru Calling" and fans are going to have to fight just to see those, and it really sounds like they will be getting something like a limited showing on the FX channel and then shot out on DVD. So in all honesty this collection may be the beginning of the end for this show in any format.

As far as special features go there really isn't too much to talk about except for you standard deleted scenes, which are nicely offered alongside the corresponding episode, along with commentaries on select episodes, a music video for the "Tru Calling" theme song by Full Blown Rose and three featurettes on the making-of season one and the creation of the show. They are all good additions, but not what you came to see.

Recommending this collection is a bit of a toss up as the fate of the show seems to have already been decided and the worth of investing money in a series that truly only gets interesting in the final moments really doesn't seem too logical. "Tru Calling" is entertaining enough to enjoy it once through, but without the final payoff this DVD set may be just as dead as the series itself, only time will tell.
