The running time is 1 hr. 32 mins..
What is probably most surprising to me is that Supercross has been at, or near, the top of the RopeofSilicon Most Popular DVD list for about the past three weeks and it doesn't hit stores for another two weeks. Considering it is sitting behind Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire right now, I think that is saying a lot, no one beats the Potter!
Now, as for the movie. Is it worth this early defense I am tossing up? Eh, not particularly, from a critical standpoint, but from the perspective of an 18 year-old or younger I would say, "Sure."
Supercross aims for nothing more than what it is said to be. There aren't any tricks or unexpected turns, it simply is what it is, a movie about Supercross racing. If I was to applaud any part of this film I would say, "Cheers," to the fact that they avoid the cliché moments where the girlfriend gets mad at the guy and his life goes to shit. This movie focuses on its subject matter and doesn't deviate, which is sure to keep racing enthusiasts entertained. I have no real idea if older fans of Supercross are going to take to this film, but younger audiences should eat it up.
My opinion? I can say I was slightly entertained for 82 minutes, but I don't expect I will be returning to watch it again. Then again, I am not a Supercross fan or in the target demographic. The movie is entertaining enough that you won't become disinterested, it is also short enough that it never gives you the chance.
As for the DVD itself the movie is really all you are buying. Yeah, there are a few featurettes and an audio commentary, but they aren't particularly interesting.
Overall, this is a good rental for a Supercross fan if you are "that" interested in the sport, and probably a good buy for a younger child. Beyond that, I wouldn't worry about this one.
