Star Trek: Nemesis - Special Collector's Edition is a Paramount Home Entertainment release and is rated PG-13.

The running time is 1 hr. 56 mins..

At long last I reach the end of the Star Trek movie saga, and while there may still be Star Trek films in the future this is as far as they have gone so far, and while Nemesis is a big step up from Insurrection it by no means can be considered the note they wanted to go out on.

I have not made it a secret that the crew of the "Next Generation" Enterprise are not exactly my favorite, but being a fan of the Trek world I don't think I could ever find a reason not to watch one of the films, and this was no exception. Ever since I saw the teaser art of the villain in this film holding that dagger amidst the green mist I was instantly intrigued, and this film holds up on many levels, while on others it still remains stagnant.

As the thought of human cloning began to run rampant in the 1990s it is no big surprise that a movie about the future would tap into the idea and that is exactly what happens here. The crew of the Enterprise is called out on a mission that could result in a peaceful truce with the Romulans. Unfortunately when they arrive on the scene they find there is more to the mission than that of representatives of Earth. Suddenly the mission becomes more than diplomatic as Picard comes face-to-face with a villain that is as much a stranger as he is recognizable and once the truth is laid out he must weigh what feels like a moral obligation against what he knows is right.

You like that ambiguous synopsis recap? Well, sorry, if you haven't seen the film there are certain things that are best left unsaid, and if you have seen the film you really don't want me to go much further because it is all old news. What is new news is this, the final installment in Paramount's Collector's Editions for their Star Trek movie franchise and once again they deliver in familiar fashion, which pretty much means - "nothing new here."

For Trek fans these Collector's Editions must have begun to wear quite thin a long while ago. While the movies themselves look and sound fantastic, with all of them crystal clear in visuals and accompanied by both a Dolby 5.1 track and the always impressive DTS track, it is just that the extras get a bit tiresome now after ten DVDs considering it all seems like the same stuff. Nevertheless, we are happy to own the definitive edition, at least to this point.

As for this edition it comes with the recognizable, yet probably the best feature of the bunch, Michael and Denise Okuda text commentary. These text commentaries are easily the best thing Paramount has done for these DVDs and the Okudas are used on virtually every Star Trek DVD whether it is movie or television show simply for this purpose. The graphical style they use has been copied by just about every studio now as it is far better than the subtitled format text commentaries used to come as.

On top of that you also get two varying audio commentaries, which really didn't do much for me, but for Trek fans with a lot of time on their hands I am sure they are invaluable.

The second disc is where the bulk of your goodies come and they are offered in traditional fashion, broken up into six separate categories (Production, Universe, Romulan Empire, Deleted Scenes, Archives and Trailers) these featurettes cover everything from casting, costumes, sets, locations, director, cast, Star Trek lore, advertising and so much more. As always there is a feature focusing on the alien primarily featured in the movie and this time it is the Romulans, and they pack in as much fictional history as they possibly can.

Like I said before I thought Nemesis was a vast improvement from the horrible Insurrection, but that still isn't really saying much. For me the one and only movie to own from the "Generation" crew is First Contact, but Nemesis would come in second for sure. I am happy it doesn't look like there will be anymore films featuring this crew, but I do hope this isn't the end of Star Trek on the big screen.
