"South Park (Season 8)" - DVD Review

South Park (Season 8) is a Paramount Home Entertainment release and is rated .

The running time is 308 minutes.

It's pretty much obvious Trey Parker and Matt Stone were working hard on their feature film Team America during season eight of "South Park" as this is just about the most generic season to date.

The season starts off well with a funny as hell episode where the boys purchase ninja weapons and as they play ninjas the animation changes from the construction paper cutout characters we are used to to Japanese anime. Seeing these characters as they maintain the boys' normal voices as a sight you have to see for yourself. It is funny as hell.

Unfortunately the rest of the season doesn't follow suit as it settles on making fun of easy targets such as Michael Jackson, Wal-Mart, George Bush and John Kerry, The Passion of the Christ, You Got Served and Paris Hilton. There are a few good episodes that take aim at immigration and an episode where Cartman enters the Special Olympics only to lose while Jimmy does steroids, but it isn't enough to say this is a good season.

As always, Matt and Trey have their mini-commentaries on each episode, but even these don't have the same appeal as they normally do. I got the feeling that not even they really liked this season that much.

I am not sure if you are one of those people that have to have every season available of your favorite show even if it isn't that good, but if you can manage on being picky I would say season eight of "South Park" is a season worth skipping. Maybe picking up the eighth season of "The Simpsons" would be a better choice. Lord knows it is a better season set.
