Soul Plane (DVD)

I missed Soul Plane in theaters, and for that I have no regret as this movie has nothing more to add that I have not already seen in a Snoop Dogg video or in the stand-up act of a hack comic.

Soul Plane relies on jokes that are as old as the day is long, this movie could have really used some soul, or at least a little bit of originality as it plays off every stereotype in the book and not once manages to surprise you or even reach out to tickle your funny bone.

Truly the amazing thing is how a movie with an estimated $16 million budget that only made $13.9 million domestically gets a DVD with this many special features.

Bonus features on the disc include outtakes, deleted scenes with director commentary, cast video commentary, a making-of featurette, the Survivor Safety Video, a photo gallery and the theatrical trailer. While you may think the majority of these are pretty standard I will say I smell about a $2 million hope for making up some money, especially since there was also an Unrated DVD released.

Just like the movie the special features can't even impress, but I will say that I would rather watch the deleted scenes again than the movie itself.

Soul Plane is certainly one flight I wouldn't recommend anyone pick up a ticket for.
