Ahhh, the double-dip... I posted an article about it here and if you haven't heard then you just aren't in the know as this will not be the only version of Sin City available on DVD. It is a shame for consumers Buena Vista is releasing this bare bones edition with true fans of the film knowing there will be a two, if not three-disc, Special Edition in the future even though the release date is not known. I say shame because this is such a great movie and it lends itself to DVD perfectly.

Sin City is based on the Frank Miller graphic novels of the same name and this first film takes three of Miller's stories (The Big Fat Kill, The Hard Goodbye, That Yellow Bastard) and wraps them into one big film and Buena Vista has done a superb job in transfering this visual masterpiece onto DVD. Along with superior video quality it also comes with a home theater shaking DTS track that makes watching this film just as enjoyable at home as it was in the theaters.

Sin City is a movie telling the story of the darkest and most villainous city you could imagine as hookers have their own town and criminal activity is just a way of life. To bring the story to life Robert Rodriguez went for an all CGI film and a HUGE cast list as you can see by the names above. Sin City keeps more in the spirit of the comic than any comic-to-movie we have seen to date, if you have seen a single page of Miller's work and compare it with this film you will be shocked at how closely several of the scenes match up.

As I said before though, this is a bare bones DVD release that comes with the movie and a making of featurette which includes interviews with Robert Rodriguez, Frank Miller, Quentin Tarantino, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Benicio Del Toro, Brittany Murphy, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson. The featurette runs about eight minutes long and it just doesn't serve as anything "special".

If you still haven't heard what will be on the Special Edition, whenever it is released, check out my article here, which gives you words straight from the director's mouth. While Buena Vista offers up a great looking release of the film here, it is hard to recommend you buy it knowing there are far better things to come.
