The running time is 2 hrs. 12 mins..
Okay, so that's a bit overly melodramatic. In all fairness to my employer, I've written reviews for plenty of pictures I've really adored. Shine a Light, Stop-Loss, The Fall and The Savages were all outstanding pictures I've had the pleasure of dissecting here at Rope of Silicon. Heck, I'd even throw slight efforts like 27 Dresses and Baby Mama into that mix of positives, so I guess that claim of hatred is more than a little bit off base.
As for Shrek the Third, here's what I said back last November: "This movie is bad, at time really bad. The writers this time around can't seem to get anything right, and while the animation is as good as ever the comedy unfortunately borders on the anemic. Other then an inspired dream sequence and a great bit of warrior warbling from Snow White sitting through this sequel was a total drag, and by the time it was over I knew immediately that the fairy tale for this set of characters was definitely over."
I feel the same way and this Blu-ray release doesn't change anything. I admit to popping it into the PS3 for a moment to see what it would look like and I was hardly disappointed. The image was as clean, crisp and as dynamic as any I've ever played here at home, so for those feeling the need to make the upgrade (all of whom are in need of some form of psychotherapy) I doubt they'll meet with disappointment.
For the rest of us, Shrek the Third is something to be avoided like the plague. Again, quoting my earlier review, "All-in-all, this film is a total waste, and for those wanting to spend their DVD dollars on something for the entire family here's my vote that they get spent someplace else." As I doubt I could say it better here on the third go-around I'll just leave it at that and call it a night.
Now, where's that pillow?
