With the eighth season of this hit show we venture down a trail of which "Seinfeld" has never traveled, and that is the sans-Larry David trail. "Seinfeld" was a creation of Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David and the writing duo turned out seven spectacular seasons of the show and then David departed before the eighth season got underway. While the show takes a noticeable turn in feel and I don't think the eighth, or ninth season for that matter, hold up that well to the prior seven, but the eighth certainly has some gems that people will quickly remember with just a few words...
How about the one where Elaine dances, the lost of art of seduction as Kramer takes sexy photos of George for the photo shop girl, the Kenny Rogers Roaster, cockfighting, "the Jerk Store called" and the yada yada... Come on, you know all these don't you? Perhaps I am just too much of a "Seinfeld" fan, but these are episodes that quickly bring back memories of waiting around with one of my high school buddies for Thursday night. Yeah, call me a loser, but I loved Thursday nights for "Seinfeld" alone.
As for the special features in this set they are bountiful. There is everything you have become used to including several audio commentaries, text and trivia commentaries, inside looks at each episode, deleted scenes and more Sein-imation features. While all those are fine and dandy I have fallen in love with the gag reels which this time runs almost 30 minutes and then a nice long documentary on Jerry Seinfeld in which everyone is interviewed. These DVDs are so well put together I don't know if it is my love for the show or the quality of the content, but I love the whole package.
Overall the eighth season isn't the best of the bunch but if you have made it this far you better pick this one up and be on the lookout for that holiday release of season nine. You have invested too much not to have the whole collection and this one looks so nice up on my shelf next to the mini puffy shirt.
