Rounders - Collector's Edition is a Miramax Home Video release and is rated R.

The running time is 2 hrs. 1 min..

You gotta love some of these special editions, and based on the recent poker craze Rounders is the perfect candidate for one as Miramax Home Video has put something together that all lovers of this movie are going to enjoy.

Back in 1998 the World Series of Poker was being televised on ESPN, but it got nowhere near the exposure it is experiencing now as not only professional poker is on the rise with the World Series and the World Poker Tour on the Travel Channel, but we are also getting celebrities in the action on Celebrity Poker on Bravo. But before the entire world caught on to the game of Texas Hold 'Em there was Rounders.

Starring Matt Damon, Edward Norton, John Malkovich and Martin Landau Rounders is easily one of my favorite films and watchable over and over and over again, and with this special edition you not only get the movie but you also get two awesome audio commentaries, but more on that in just a sec.

First of let's give a brief breakdown of the film as we follow Mike McDermitt (Damon) as he has recently lost all his savings on one night of poker to underground card room owner Teddy KGB (Malkovich). Unsatisfied with the loss, but thinking of his future, Mike puts the cards away and focuses on law school, but things soon change as his boyhood friend Worm (Norton) gets out of jail and pulls Mike back into the lifestyle he thought he had left behind.

If you haven't seen the movie you might think that a movie based on a life of making money playing poker would be boring, and you're right, it would be had the actors and filmmakers in this movie not brought to life such amazing characters with awesome dialogue and outstanding situations. You will find more than one opportunity to steal lines from this film and use them in your home games.

But before you head out telling your friends in the poker game of life women are the rake let's take a look at those special features.

Like I said before the disc comes with two feature-length commentaries, the first is comprised of four professional poker players who, if you watch any poker on television, you will recognize immediately as Chris Moneymaker, Johnny Chan, Phil Helmuth and Chris "Jesus" Ferguson talk their way through the movie. While some of the time the four go silent without anything to say, when they do get chatting it is fun as hell to listen to. Whether it is comments on how the people are playing or just general comments on the movie it is extremely entertaining.

The other commentary is with director John Dahl, screenwriters David Levien and Brian Koppelman and Worm himself, Edward Norton. While Norton spends the early part of the film pointing out all his adlibs the entire commentary is entertaining as they don't just go scene-to-scene giving general comments. Instead, they go into the production and have fun with it. Besides comments on Petra (Janssen) giving herself to Damon's character and being subsequently turned down the best example of this would be a comment by Edward Norton regarding Martin Landau saying, "I remember being impressed at the young girls that Martin Landau always seems to pull." Classic stuff!

As for the other special features they are really secondary to the commentaries with a behind-the-scenes look at the production, a look into the world of professional poker and some poker tips.

There is also a little Texas Hold 'Em game that isn't really all that impressive, but I wouldn't concern myself with those details, this is a must own DVD for any film lover with a great cast to an awesome story it is hands down one of the best. With two awesome commentaries it is definitely worth upgrading that old edition that is on your shelf or dusting off a place for your first copy.

On a side note, if card movies are something you are interested in another great pickup is the lesser known movie Shade, which boasts a huge cast and is a great pickup, check that one out here, that is after you buy this one.
