The running time is 1 hr. 24 mins..
Based on the popular Comedy Central television show that bites off of Fox's hit reality cop show "COPS" this show focuses on a rag tag group of idiots that make up the Reno police department. At the lead is the outwardly gay Chief of Police Lt. Dangle, but this film manages to avoid rehashing what fans have seen on television by taking the gang to Miami for a law enforcement convention in Miami Beach. Unfortunately they show up and aren't on the list and therefore don't have a place to stay or laminates to attend the convention. No worries, they find a roach hotel to stay at and will resolve the problem the next day.
After a night of debauchery they wake up hung over and head to the convention only to find out there has been a terrorist attack and the over 2,000 police officers attending are now quarantined inside and they are the only police officials available to patrol the streets of Miami and get to the bottom of whatever has happened.
Featuring a couple of cameos by Danny DeVito, The Rock, Paul Reubens and a small but crucial role played by Paul Rudd the film goes as you would expect, a couple of sketch scenes here and there to keep that TV show feel and then a storyline here and there to move the plot forward. This is movie making in its simplest form and the kind of comedy that includes plenty of pratfalls and jerk off scenes. So if that is what makes you laugh then go for it. Since I didn't see the theatrical version I am not sure how much of the nudity or foul language was in the R-rated theatrical version but none of it seemed too raunchy to me.
On the special feature front you get three audio commentaries, extended scenes, a Fox Movie Channel special, trailer, an Easter Egg and then the best of the bunch, four Public Service Announcements made in character by the cast of the film. Honestly, I actually laughed at the PSAs, but that is all that made me smile.
I know there are people out there that appreciate and enjoy this style of comedy so I can't fault this movie for making something that appeals to a specific audience. However, it just doesn't make me laugh but I hope I have given you enough to go on to determine whether or not it will give you a chuckle.
