Perfect Creature (DVD)

"Perfect Creature" - DVD Review

Perfect Creature is a Fox Home Entertainment release and is rated R.
Never released in theaters, this odd little take on the vampire tale never gets on the right track. Set in the 1960s we are introduced to an alternate world that isn't totally different from our own. Of course, there is one major difference, vampires and humans co-exist... peacefully. There are scenes of blood bars as humans generously donate their blood so the bloodsuckers don't have to go on midnight rampages, but our problem is not with the majority of the vampires, there is one in particular we need to worry about. Edgar.

Edgar isn't going to conform to this peace thing. Vampires, while considered genetically superior are regulated by the church and live to serve the humans. The kicker is that a human has never been killed in the 300 years of existence, until now. Yup, you guessed it... Edgar. Referred to as the "Brotherhood" in the pic, the vampires send out Silus (Scott) to catch Edgar. Once the humans catch wind that the recent rash of deaths is not due to the "plague" that continues to spread but it is in fact a vampire, Silus is joined by human police captain Lilly (Burrows) and the hunt is on. Throw in a disgruntled cop that doesn't like vampires, but will learn to respect them and some super vampire hearing that is oddly adept at hearing dripping water and you have your movie. While this may sound like a good story for what ended up being a direct to video release, it turns into quite the boring predictable movie not even worth a once over.

Aside from the movie there are a couple of making of featurettes and trailers for films other than Perfect Creature. Don't waste your time with any of this, that is unless you want to check out the trailer for Wrong Turn 2, but I can tell you right now it looks the same as the crummy first one.

Shitty special effects and the odd way that Dougray Scott thinks it is good acting to tilt his head at every possible moment are reasons enough not to see this movie, but throw in the storyline and its poor execution and Perfect Creature should be crossed off your list of movies to see.
