"Mr. 3000" - DVD Review
Domestic Box-Office Total
Mr. 3000 is a Buena Vista Home Entertainment release and is rated
PG-13.
The running time is 1 hr. 43 mins..
Mr. 3000 is a movie not even its lead character that is afraid to admit is corny once everything is said and done. This is a film that takes cliché and runs with it as everything bad that can happen happens, and everything good that can happen happens resulting in a very predictable fare, yet an entertaining one for its duration, but far from a reason to shell out anything other than rental fees for this hour and 43 minutes of fun.
Bernie Mac is featured as Stan Ross, a.k.a. Mr. 3000, a man who has just reached a baseball batting pinnacle as he hits for his 3000th base hit in his career and subsequently retires upon achieving the goal. Ross is selfish and has always put himself first and due to that he ends up alone and ultimately frustrated as he is suddenly made aware that his achievement is not all it is cracked up to be as he falls three hits shy of 3000 due to a statistical error. Determined to reclaim his crown to appeal to his massive ego he returns to baseball after a nine year lay off and begins to realize the error of his young ways.
This movie offers up enough laughs and entertainment to call it a decent rental, but I can't suggest you go out and buy it, on top of the film you do get a good deal of special features, but anything far from deeming this one buy worthy.
There is an unnecessary commentary track by helmer Charles Stone, a very unfunny outtake segment, deleted and extended scenes which do include an extended Tonight Show and SportsCenter segment, but far from worth your time, a look at the extra casting as they go to baseball tryouts and a run-of-the-mill making of featurette.
Mr. 3000 tanked at the box-office and it is no fault of Mac or even the sexy Angela Bassett who ages with the best of them.
Overall, this is a renter, and a second resort rental at best depending on your mood. While Mac is entertaining I just can't recommend you put this one at the top of your list.
