The Girl Next Door (Unrated) is a Fox Home Video release and has not yet been rated by the MPAA.
It seems with every sexually explicit teen movie that comes out we are greeted with yet another "unrated" version on DVD, and as always that really doesn't mean much when it comes to the actual film or its extras. While the Unrated DVD version of The Girl Next Door doesn't really add too much in the way of raunchy teen sex antics to the film that doesn't exactly take away from the quality of the movie.

The Girl Next Door follows the boring, by the book, life of Matthew Kidman whose life is turned upside down when Danielle (Cuthbert) moves in next door. Danielle is a beautiful ex-pornstar with her mind set on turning her life around and adding a little bit of spice to Matthew's.

The movie is just as much a raunchy sex tale as it is a story of finding that one true love as Matthew is determined to set Danielle on the straight and narrow and Danielle wants to help Matthew break out of the little shell he has lived in his entire life.

As far as the Unrated DVD goes don't really expect too much added to the film except for a couple of soft-core porn scenes added here and there that really aren't noticeable until you hear director Luke Greenfield point them out in his commentary.

Greenfield's commentary is extremely well thought out as he touches on his motivations and the construction of almost every scene, while it isn't exactly a top-notch listen it isn't too bad either. Along with the commentary track there is also a mini pop-up trivia track on the first side of the disc that I found easiest to tolerate while listening to Greenfield's commentary.

The bulk of the DVD goodies can be found by flipping the DVD over, which gives you a load of deleted scenes, a couple of cool featurettes, scene specific commentary with Cuthbert and Hirsch, a gag reel and some trailers.

Of all the features the two that really stand out are the commentaries by Cuthbert and Hirsch and "The Eli Experience" Featurette.

I think the Greenfield commentary would have been much better if Cuthbert and Hirsch had been included, primarily considering it seems like they had a lot of fun making the film and Cuthbert's thoughts on her semi-nude scenes are a good listen considering she was a bit hesitant to do them in the first place.

Now "The Eli Experience" Featurette is by far the greatest as Chris Marquette, who played the character of Eli, a sex starved high school student, goes into a real adult film convention as Eli, a supposed porn director. The whole goal of the featurette is to trick people into some crazy candid camera situations. It is actually quite funny to see what some of these people will do.

Overall I think this is a good, funny movie. Elisha Cuthbert looks absolutely amazing throughout and when you hear Luke Greenfield say that people weren't sure if she could pull off the sexy, sultry porn star she was supposed to be you have got to wonder who these people were that were saying this.

As far as should you buy the Unrated or regular DVD, I don't think this is ever a question when buying one or the other. Why settle for the regular version when you can at the very least, get a little more from the Unrated for the same price?
