"ER - The Complete Third Season" - DVD Review

ER - The Complete Third Season is a Warner Home Video release and is rated .

The running time is 993 mins..

While season two of "ER" may have had the infamous Doug Ross saving the girl in the rain sequence season three has my favorite storyline the show has ever offered as Omar Epps joins the cast for a brief time, but this season isn't limited to only one special guest appearance as the medical drama that changed late night television also brings in the likes of Kirsten Dunst, Ewan McGregor and Maria Bello.

For me "ER" began to lose its luster once George Clooney, Anthony Edwards, Eriq La Salle and Julianna Margulies left the show, but now the good times can be revisited again and while season three isn't exactly jaw-dropping it does add a ton of new storylines that allow the show to continue its long run.

Season three tackles AIDS head on, introduces Dr. Benton to pediatrics, Doug Ross brings an overdosed date into the ER asking him to question his lifestyle, Dr. Greene battles his own racial stereotypes, Susan leaves for Arizona and Benton's baby is born.

Along with all 22 episodes of the season this set also contains a good group of special features. Starting off with commentaries on two episodes, one of which should have been the one where Benton botches a surgery on one of his pediatric patients or even on Epps final episode. Then again I have never been a fan of commentaries on TV shows, but "ER" is one of the most technically advanced TV shows there is so there is never any harm in checking these two out.

On top of that there are two documentaries; the better of the two has to be the one titled "The Nurses Station" as it sits down for 15-minutes with the actresses playing the nurses on the show as they discuss their time on the set. On top of that there is a group of several deleted scenes, a trailer for the "ER" video game, which looks awful by the way, and a gag reel, which isn't exactly great, but it is cool to see Noah Wyle and Eriq La Salle laughing it up in the middle of one of their intense scenes.

Overall, this is a great season of "ER" and for you lovers of the show I don't need to tell you that, but if you are looking to get into one of the greatest shows ever and relive the glory days before the show turned into more of a soap opera as the medical drama began to wear thin.
