Eddie Murphy Raw is a Paramount Home Entertainment release and is rated
R.
The running time is 1 hr. 30 mins.
Just last weekend I got the chance to review Chris Rock's latest HBO Comedy Special
Never Scared and now this weekend I get
Eddie Murphy Raw! If someone would just deliver a Richard Pryor Live in Concert box set to my house I would be absolutely set.
Back before Eddie Murphy was a goody goody playing a CGI donkey and appearing in box office bombs such as
The Adventures of Pluto Nash he was a purple and black leather wearing funny man that could keep audiences in stitches for hours.
It is debatable as to whether or not his first comedic release
Delirious is better than
Raw, but even watching
Raw now, taking current events into consideration, several of Murphy's themes still ring true even though it was released in theaters in 1987. Murphy cuts into Michael Jackson and devotes a lot of time to the sanctity of marriage and the relationship pitfalls everyone goes through.
He is rude, crude and absolutely phenomenal.
The DVD edition of
Raw doesn't come with any special features and the quality of the video is a bit sketchy, but you have to remember that you aren't putting this DVD in for the special effects, you are putting it in to laugh your ass off and if you are an open minded person you will but I will have to warn others that this is not comedic material that you will hear on network television.
But for the rest of us that can handle it, Eddie Murphy proves in
Raw that he is one of history's comedic geniuses and it is always fun to take a trip back to the 80s with his comedy, and for $10.49 how can you afford not to pick this DVD up?
