Dr. Suess' The Cat in the Hat is a Universal Studios Home Entertainment release and is rated PG.

The running time is 1 hr. 22 mins..

Once again another movie from 2003 I skipped in the theaters and once I saw the reviews I was slightly happy that I did, but then again I don't always agree with the majority of the critics. Unfortunately, this time I have to.

On a whole Cat in the Hat is just not a funny movie as it is meant to be, plus the majority of the humor (if it was actually funny) is more aimed at adults than it is at children. Aside from the effects being absolutely amazing from the cat suit Mike Myers wears to the outstanding sets and props used to bring the film to life the story just falls flat.

Oddly enough the most intriguing thing about the movie would be the role of The Fish, voice by "Will & Grace" star Sean Hayes. Opposite that thought, the worst thing about the movie, and the DVD for that matter, would be Alec Baldwin, who I have not been impressed with since his role as Jack Ryan in The Hunt for Red October.

Baldwin not only plays the bad boy of the movie, but he is also included on the feature length commentary with director Bo Welch, which ends up turning out to be a love fest between the two and just a simple outlet for the egotistical Baldwin to spout off, as he goes on and on about how every scene is his favorite scene. The one thing you will get out of the commentary is where exactly you were "supposed" to laugh as Welch delivers the most annoying laugh you will ever hear every time one of the film's "punch-lines" are delivered.

As for the rest of the special features there isn't really much here, despite the large volume of items you can check out. Of the 14 special features I would really only recommend viewing two of them whether you enjoyed the film or not the Deleted Scenes and Outtakes are worth a peek.

I am a sucker for Outtakes and while these aren't exactly the funniest, seeing Spencer Breslin, who plays Conrad in the film, fall flat on his face a couple of times is actually quite comical. As for the deleted scenes there is actually something here as one of the scenes is quite long and it gives you about a five minute scene that was removed from the film, and it involves an entire skit with The Cat.

The rest of the features are pretty much self-explanatory and all fall within about the 2-3 minute range. If you have some time to waste check them out, but if you aren't that interested, don't bother.

If kids find this funny, I have no idea why, but this is one DVD that really goes to show just how much money can be wasted on one film, as it turns into one major flop.
