Dawson's Creek - The Complete Third Season is a Columbia Pictures Home Entertainment release and is rated .
"90210" has found its alter ego with "Dawson's Creek", the only difference being that instead of Beverly Hills, we find ourselves in Capeside where the synopsis says the story finds itself centered around four friends, Dawson Leery (Van Der Beek), Joey Potter (Holmes), and Pacey Witter (Jackson) and Jennifer Lindley (Williams), but the third season also enters the television show into a bit of moral politics with a continuing storyline centered around Jack (Smith), a teenage gay man struggling with his position in society while trying to fit in with his peers. A couple of people you may recognize as guest stars are
Micheal Pitt (
Murder by Numbers,
The Dreamers) and
Brittany Daniel (
Broken Lizard's Club Dread).
Now, I am spitting out a lot of details that I only know from watching this season since before pushing play on my DVD player I had never seen a single second of this show, but due to its wide popularity I thought I would have to see what the fuss was about, and this show can be summed up quite easily - unrealistic drama.
"Dawson's Creek" is a world where 16-year-olds have, in their words, "lovers and friends" as well as a vocabulary that I couldn't even begin to compete with as everyday words suddenly become words such as "diatribe" and characters even find themselves in "perpetual myopia". "Dawson's Creek" is certainly not a reflection of today's high schoolers, but it is just a show and it does have its curiosities that can keep an audience captive.
I can't see many guys too interested in sitting through this, unless forced by their girlfriends, as every character is more and more whiny than the last and it isn't a surprise to find someone crying at least one or two times an episode. Also, I may be behind the times, but since when are high school sweethearts setting out to sea for a three month boat trip to the Bahamas for summer break?
I could nit-pick all day long but I digress and will take a short time to go over the "special" features, which aren't exactly special, or even necessary.
Starting with the commentary placed on two episodes by produce Paul Stupin and the actor playing Jack Kerr Smith. Now this commentary is absolutely boring and will only be found interesting to an absolute lover of this show, and even then I have my doubts.
Secondly is the "interactive" tour of Capeside, which actually takes so long to go through that I was done with it before I ever really started. DVDs aren't necessarily cut-out for something that is better left on an official website.
Another feature, that I really can't comment on is that they have apparently changed some of the music on the episodes, and since I haven't seen them before I can't tell you if it is for the best, or not. I do, however, know that the music is one of the show's selling points so it will probably be important to some of you.
Speaking of music, the DVD also has a Weblink to a page where you can make your own "Dawson's Creek" soundtrack, or you could just
click here and save your time.
Overall, I will tell you that I would not worry myself if I missed this show or not, but I was entertained while watching it and will be awaiting the Season 4 release to see how things turn out. As for you enthusiasts the link to buy this season is right above so enjoy!
