Da Ali G Show: Da Compleet First Seazon is a Warner Home Video release and is rated .
Who the hell is Ali G? That is exactly what I was saying when promotion for his second season on HBO went into high gear, but after checking out a couple of online clips my interest was peaked, and now his entire first season has come to a two disc DVD bringing British comedian Baron Cohen, a.k.a. Ali G, Borat and Bruno, to your home theater.
The "Ali G Show" is a surprisingly hilarious comedy sketch show in which Cohen travels across America in three different disguises. First off is the gangsta journalist Ali G, whose intelligence is comparable to a second grader. Next is Borat from Kazakhstan, with "Borat's Guide to America" and finally there is the over the top homosexual fashionista Bruno.
As these three characters the show broaches just about every buzz word topic you can think of from race, art, law, politics, fashion, religion and of course sex.
On his journey he not only encounters your average, and not-so-average, American as well as a select group of individuals you will not believe he actually gets to sit down with him including names such as James Lipton, Donald Trump, Newt Gingrich, Buzz Aldrin, Ralph Nader and Boutros Boutros-Ghali who was Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1992 to December 1996.
If you are still wondering where the comedy is just consider a couple of things, first off the Ali G lingo, which is prominently featured on the DVD with an entire Ali G Glossary in which you will learn that a feminist is G's word for a lesbian, "erbal remedy" is drugs, "go to me julie" is sleep and if you are a "racialist" you are discriminatory, "trumpet" is a fart, "up da spout" means pregnant and, as for a "bellend", you are just going to have to watch.
Still looking for reason to watch how about Ali telling James Lipton he is a bit "over the hill, and around the bend," after Lipton admits to crying while watching a movie. Then after that Lipton raps to close out the show.
Also on G's travels he meets the brains behind the fashion world where you will hear him ask a Hollywood stylist, "If Jesus were alive today, where would he shop?"
That question may seem ridiculous to you and I but his answer is, "Melrose." Wanna know why? Because a lot of the shops have "long cool getups, yet still have that 'back to Earth' kinda feeling."
Ali G also asks Buzz Aldrin, "Do you think man will ever walk on the sun?"
As if that isn't enough you will also hear another stylist let Bruno know they were actually impressed with Bruno's questions, which throws the whole show over the edge.
My only complaint about the show is the Borat sections, which become extremely redundant, but it did increase its humor level after listening to the commentary track on the first episode with Cohen and producer/writer Dan Mazer.
As for the rest of the disc you will get some extended Borat (ho-hum) and the full length version of Ali G's Spyz movie, which unfortunately did not get picked up by Hollywood producers.
Don't worry about the extras here, this DVD has more than enough in just its episodes to be worth the price, if you still aren't convinced I have posted a mini-commercial for the DVD below, check it out.
