When I ask people if they watch "CSI: Miami" they always tell me they hate David Caruso as an actor, which has caused them not to watch. While I can't blame them, his antics are damn annoying, this show has a lot more to offer than just an annoying lead. For starters I have to ask if all of you have been introduced to Emily Proctor, a.k.a. Calleigh Duquesne. I have told others and I alluded to it before, there is just something about her that makes the Miami heat bearable. Her sweet southern accent and that innocent yet intelligent approach to her character is so damn desirable. That, however, is just the tip of the iceberg.
The one thing "CSI: Miami" does is keep up with its back story far more than its cohorts. While "CSI: NY" has shown signs of doing the same I have not seen season two yet so I can't comment. "Miami" has continued its storyline focus on Horatio Caine's "dead" brother giving viewers something to connect to from episode to episode. Unfortunately, there are a few too many times when things coincidentally pop up, but in this case more is better.
As for the season itself there are a few episodes that don't exactly butter my bread, but I do think this is another great addition in the "CSI" family. Putting a "CSI" DVD into the player is always fun even if you know the outcome. There is just something about the serious nature of the show that is appealing as it is coupled with mystery and a look all its own. "Miami's" largest difference between it's two family members is that it is far brighter. The sun is always shining in Miami and it gives the show a look and feel all its own.
"What about special features?" you ask. Well, this one continues in the tradition of all those before it with six audio commentaries, four featurettes and a cool 8-part feature looking at the world of the Medical Examiner, which is fitting as this season really brought the autopsy room to the forefront giving Khandi Alexander a much larger role on a whole.
Overall I think it goes without saying that another season set of "CSI: Miami" is worth it. The "CSI" franchise continues to lead the way on CBS in ratings. If I did have one problem with the set, and this goes for all "CSI" sets on DVD, is the high price tag it carries. Over at Amazon this season is running at $55.99 as I type up this review, which is pretty hefty considering shows like "The West Wing" carry $38.99 price tags and are just as good if not better.
So if your wallet can handle the charges open it up. If not pass this one on to your relatives as a worthy Christmas gift.
