Cry_Wolf (Unrated Version) is a Universal Studios Home Entertainment release and has not yet been rated by the MPAA.
They wouldn't screen it for press here in Seattle, but they will let us review the DVD as Cry_Wolf tries to be too clever for its own good ultimately resulting in a movie that has a nice little twist ending, but it isn't exactly the twist ending that generates much scares. For that matter, not a lot in this movie generates anything in the way of scares.

The movie begins as a suspected serial killer may be on the loose even though only one person has been found dead in the woods, and just like any average prep school kids out in the middle of nowhere a group of students decide to spread a hoax email that is said to originate from the killer himself detailing his involvement in the murder and murders yet to come. This is where our supposed madness is said to begin as the threat of a killer becomes all-too-real, but the actual killer may be closer to this tight-knit group than anyone expected.

Based on the plot above I think you can read between the lines and say it with me... "typical teen slasher movie". Well, I will say it isn't your typical teen slasher, but it certainly wishes it was. At least Scream offered up some real mystery and scares. With this movie it isn't that there isn't any mystery, it's that there aren't any scares and you really don't give a rat's ass what happens to any of the kids onscreen. They are all so damned unlikable.

As for this "unrated" cut, I think the director's say it better in one of there commentaries over the deleted scenes, this is actually an "extended" cut. To say unrated when referring to a "horror" you would expect some real gore of some sort, but all you get here is some blood and that's about it. Sorry fellas, even though you added scenes in doing some additional character building I still don't care.

As for the features, there is a feature commentary by the director and producer, and while I am ragging on this flick I do think these guys will be giving audiences something good in the future. They have their heads screwed on straight and they are excited about making movies. Their commentary isn't that bad considering I really didn't like the movie that much.

The deleted scenes and making of stuff is pretty much standard, but there is a section containing two short films made by director Jeff Wadlow, "Manual Labor" and "The Tower of Babbly". I have to be honest here, these are better than the movie itself. Personally, I was frustrated when I saw that I had to watch two shorts when I had to review this DVD, but afterwards I didn't mind it one bit. They aren't reason enough to buy the DVD, but they are pretty cool.

Overall, I would say skip this disc. Rent it if you need a slight scare fix, but to spend your money on this when you could buy 1/100 of a share of Google stock would be silly.
