Coyote Ugly (Unrated Special Edition) is a Buena Vista Home Entertainment release and has not yet been rated by the MPAA.

The running time is 1 hrs. 47 mins..

Along with an unrated release of Gone in 60 Seconds, on June 7th Buena Vista Home Entertainment will also be releasing an unrated version of the scantily clad chick bar flick Coyote Ugly and while this one may actually be deserved of the adjective "unrated" I am not sure if it is worth a purchase if you already own the first release.

Coyote Ugly centers around Violet Sanford played by Piper Perabo in her first major role as she sets out for a new life as a songwriter in New York, leaving her life in a New Jersey small town behind. Once in the Big Apple she begins to realize that it may be a little tougher than she thought as she is continually turned down and bouts of stage fright set her writing career way back.

Strapped for cash she learns of an opening at a bar called Coyote Ugly and to support herself she gives in to her need for cash and becomes a bar dancing Coyote until she is reminded of what she went to New York for.

The film stars enough hot women to set your living room on fire as Maria Bello, Bridget Moynahan and Tyra Banks flash a large amount of skin and Perabo gives you a much more intimate look at her 23-year-old body than you got in the PG-13 rated theatrical release, but this nudity is offered up merely to satisfy prurient interests as it is sloppily edited together.

Most often director's cuts are actual visions the director had, but for reasons such as time constraints, studio pressure, or rating problems they never saw the theatrical release, and with Coyote Ugly it is obvious that rating reasons caused these scenes to be left out as Piper loses the bra in her sex scene with Adam Garcia. Unfortunately the editors putting this together couldn't remember if Perabo had her bra on or off as they went from one cut to the next. So instead of something sexy (and Perabo is DAMN sexy) you get a sloppy concoction of the reappearing bra instead, which I am sure Perabo is going to be happy to see has finally made it onto DVD.

As for the rest of the features, they are simple regurgitations from the previously released edition, and while I do not own the earlier release I can tell by the similarity in the listings that there isn't much new material here, and it is far unworthy of being referred to as "special." One feature that did intrigue me, but turned out to be a bust, was the audio commentary with the ladies that played the Coyotes, Jerry Bruckheimer and director David McNally. Unfortunately, the audio commentary is the old commentary with new comments placed over the new material. So instead of getting a chance to listen to the ladies discuss Piper's newly found breasts you get Jerry Bruckheimer busting in with his thoughts on something completely unrelated. It could have been a great listen, but instead we get nothing.

Whether or not you buy this DVD is simply a matter of whether or not you think it is worth fourteen of your hard earned dollars to see a scene with a topless Piper Perabo... no offense to Piper, but that doesn't exactly make this a purchase that jumps off the shelf in my case. Coyote Ugly is a decent flick and a good time, but if you already own this DVD skip this release, but if you don't, as always, the director's cut would probably be the one you would want to pick up if you are so inclined.
