Bridget Jones's Diary is all that plus "Unforgettable."
As we near the release of
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, the sequel to the 2001 runaway hit
Bridget Jones's Diary we get a Collector's Edition of the original film filled with special features and an excellent commentary by the first-time director Sharon Maguire, which isn't one of the new features, but easily one of the best.
Based on the best-selling novel,
Bridget Jones's Diary, by Helen Fielding the movie of the same name tells the story of the immediately likeable Bridget Jones, whose single life as a 32-year-old career woman never seems to get easier as the pressure put on women to marry before they have "hit their expiration date" continues to mount. Luckily for her, her charisma and charm puts her in the forefront of the mind of two eligible bachelors, on the other hand she now finds herself caught between the two men. One a bad boy womanizer, the other, the decent man of any woman's dreams... who will she pick?
The marketability of this DVD title is undeniable but do the new features add enough to this DVD to make it worth upgrading your old release? Let's see.
Of the features the ones that really stand out, are those that were on the original release, from a great commentary track by the loose lipped director Sharon Maguire to an excellent batch of deleted scenes that really should have been put into the feature film making this an easy decision on whether to buy the re-released DVD.
As for the new features you obviously get a look at the filming of the upcoming sequel as well as a couple of new short featurettes including a guide to Bridget Britishisms, a portrait of the Makeup Artist, a guide to being single,
Bridget Jones's Diary reviews and new TV spots. Of these new features there isn't really anything that stands out as worthwhile. The behind-the-scenes look at
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason isn't really worth the price of a new DVD and the so called "guides" are just too generic to be called worthy.
The best way to decide if this is the DVD for you is whether or not you own the original. I will concede that this is a title that everyone who enjoys romantic comedies should own, it is extremely funny and a movie you can watch at anytime and enjoy, but if you already own the original release I would not upgrade.
The features from the original release are easily the best and the new features just aren't worth purchasing the new DVD despite the new DVD packaging this one comes with.
