Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction (Unrated) is a Sony Pictures Home Entertainment release and has not yet been rated by the MPAA.
For some reason I thought I could sit through Basic Instinct 2 again just because the DVD came in an Unrated format. I thought to myself, "What the hell, the first time around wasn't horrible. At least this time there will be more skin." Then, about 15 minutes into the film I realized what I had gotten myself into... an hour and 57 minutes of boredom, and that is three minutes more than if I was watching the R-rated version.

I gave Basic Instinct 2 a "C-" after I saw it in theaters and I would say that is an okay grade for a first time viewing, but I cannot defend that grade after seeing it again. Sharon Stone's performance as the maniacal author Catherine Trammel is so over acted and out of her range at her age it isn't even funny. Her face is caked with makeup and she no longer has the sex appeal she had when the first film was released. Sorry Sharon, 47 is a lot different than 34.

Anyway, this time around the story isn't much different. Catherine is still confusing shrinks and cops and playing sexual games to appeal to her "risk addiction". It really is corny and while it didn't bore me to tears when I saw it in the theater this time around it was all I could do to make it to the end credits.

As far as special features go there are a bunch of deleted scenes, a making-of documentary and a director commentary. The unrated extra footage is nothing big... you've seen Sharon naked before... The director's commentary is a bore, but that is only because I have no interest in learning anything more about this movie. I will say his comments on the opening scene, however, are interesting since he meant it to simulate the act of sex. Not a big surprise, but when you envision a sports car catapulting itself into a lake as a metaphor for an ejaculation the comparison sort of goes out the window.

I should also mention there is one deleted scene that gives us an added listen into Catherine and Dr. Andrew Glass (David Morrissey) and their initial conversation where Catherine reveals to the good doctor that she had her first sexual experience at the age of 12 in a hammock with another female. Not exactly hot...

I know I gave it a "C-" earlier, which would say that a rental might not be a bad idea, but I can't really recommend this film on any level. If you do happen to pick it up for rent you probably won't hate yourself, but the chances of watching this movie more than once are very, very slim.
