"Bandidas" - DVD Review

Bandidas is a Fox Home Entertainment release and is rated PG-13.

The running time is 1 hr. 32 mins..

If you have a couple of hours to waste then Bandidas is your choice as this male wet dream on DVD spent about a minute in theaters somewhere serves as nothing more than a test in how long you are willing to endure stupidity. If the answer is 93 minutes then you are definitely one to check out this comedy/western starring the two lovelies.

The pic is set in 1888 Mexico, Hayek plays an educated young lady taht has just seen her father murdered by a group of bandits headed up by Dwight Yoakam. Penelope stars as a farmer's daughter who has also been murdered. Yoakam and his band of baddies are robbing banks, taking land and killing people all in an effort to spearhead a new railroad and that doesn't sit well with our two stars. Despite their differences Cruz and Hayek end up turning bandits themselves and begin robbing the banks before the bad guys get there and ultimately end up in a race to save all of Mexico.

The only highlight of this film is a scene with Cruz and Hayek wearing corsets, but if you are looking for gratuitous looks at Hayek's goodies just click here. Watching this might hurt your head.

However, I will say one thing. Hayek and Cruz take part in their first ever audio commentary and you will learn that the two only really did this film as a chance to have fun and work together. Granted, they seem to think it is good, but that is besides the point. This commentary is a dull listen, but there is a moment in which Cruz attempts to explain how the two actresses almost died flying to the set and she is constantly interrupted by Hayek saying, "Get to the point, you aren't writing a novel." It is funny as Hayek seems to be the big sister in the relationship, but it is hardly worth the price of the DVD.

Skip this one if you can and rent it if you must, but your wallet will hate you if you spend anymore than a Netflix night on it.
