Bambi (Disney Special Platinum Edition) is a Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment release and is rated
G.
The running time is 1 hr. 9 mins.
Disney knows how to treat its classics and they certainly went full-tilt with the latest 2-Disc Platinum Edition of
Bambi, a movie that first hit movie screens August 13, 1942 and thanks to a digitally remastered audio track and an all-new picture restoration
Bambi comes to life as if it were made yesterday.
Bambi tells the story of a young fawn learning the innocence of life until he is forced to overcome the worst nature and mankind has to offer on his way to adulthood in a film that shows just how fabulous Walt Disney films used to be.
However, the goods on this DVD don't stop with just an amazing audio and video presentation as all the goodies were brought out for this feature including a lengthy featurette hosted by Patrick Stewart. The featurette brings to life creative meetings of the past reenacted by voice actors while images from the film flash before your eyes along with concept sketches and all the tools used to bring
Bambi to the big screen.
The features don't stop there as disc two delivers two deleted scenes, a featurette on how they restored
Bambi, a making-of feature featuring several of the actors that brought life to
Bambi's characters, a look back at 1942 when
Bambi was released in theaters, a cool little feature on the multiplane camera technique of animation, a look at the
Bambi sequel and several games for the kids to enjoy.
I certainly recognize
Bambi for the grace in which its story is told as it deals with death in such a meaningful and thoughtful way, and it seems Walt knew just where to draw the line as the one item from the extras that really stuck in my mind focused on some
Bambi storyboards, which actually show Bambi's mother being shot and a look at the dead body of the hunter that inadvertently started the forest fire at the end of the film, these scenes could have been chilling.
All-in-all, I don't think I really need to tell you to go buy this DVD as every treasure unveiled from Disney's vault is worthy of everyone's collection, but if you need the extra push so be it. BUY THIS DVD!
