Downey Makes Foxx 'Soloist' a Duet
Downey and Foxx means good stuff a comin'
Did you know Robert Downey Jr. has released music before? His album "The Futurist" has a song called "Broken" that actually appeared on the Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang soundtrack that is quite good. The guy has some singing talent, but it unfortunately won't be put to the test in the musical drama The Soloist as he joins Jamie Foxx in the Joe Wright directed flick.
Instead of showing off his pipes, Downey will be playing Steve Lopez, the Los Angeles Times columnist who discovered Nathaniel Ayers (Foxx), a downtown L.A. homeless man who was a skillful violinist. After learning that Ayers was a prodigy until schizophrenia made it impossible to continue, Lopez wrote columns about the musician and developed a relationship that changed both their lives. The film is based on Lopez's columns, as well as a book he wrote that will be published by Putnam next spring.
The film sounds like it is sure to be interesting considering the talen involved from director to cast.
Shooting begins in L.A. in January from Susannah Grant's script.
