D'Onofrio, Sorvino and Jones Join 'The Irishman'
It appears I was dead wrong on this one...
It appears I was most likely wrong in thinking Lightening Entertainment's The Irishman would be a direct-to-DVD title as the production house is out pre-selling the film at the Cannes Film Festival and Screen Daily has additional names to add to the cast.
Already cast in the film, which will be directed by Jonathan Hensleigh from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jeremy Walters, are Christopher Walken, Val Kilmer and Ray Stevenson and Screen Daily announces Vincent D'Onofrio, Paul Sorvino and Vinnie Jones have also joined the cast.
The film was inspired by Rick Porrello's "To Kill The Irishman: The War That Crippled The Mafia" and tells the story based on the life of mobster Danny Greene (Stevenson), who lorded over Cleveland's criminal underworld during the late 1970s. Walken is onboard to play infamous loan-sharking nightclub owner Shondor Birns, and Kilmer will portray a Cleveland cop who befriends Greene.
Steve Schirripa, Fionnula Flanagan, Laura Ramsey, Linda Cardellini, Bob Gunton and Tony Lo Bianco have also joined the cast.
Shooting is set to begin next week in Detroit.

Could Your articles please reveal a little more when writing something on the "Mafia" ?
These days i have no idea what criminal organization a writer is touching on when simply mentioning "Mafia".
If its the Russian, Irish, Italian, Cuban or Colmbian influenced Mafia could you please say so ?

I don't believe Brad is writing about the mafia. He's writing about "The Irishman," a film. Give the guy a break! ;)
All the info you seek, Col, can be found on Rick Porrello's website http://americanmafia.com/
Rick is the author of "To Kill the Irishman: The War That Crippled the Mafia" from which the film, The Irishman," is adapted.
Right now I'm reading another of Rick Porrello's books, "The Rise and Fall of the Cleveland Mafia." Very interesting book. Rick knows his stuff. If you read that book, you'll know why.

I am the grandson of the man who set the bomb on Irish mob boss Danny Greene. If anyone knows how I could get a preveiew of the movie or movie poster please let me know. I also live in Erie Pa and would love to see some of the movie being filmed in Detroit. Especially the part that involves my grandfather. if any could help me out on information to any of this please tell me. Thank you.
Raymond, wasn't your grandfather paroled about 6 yrs. ago?
@ Amber. My grandfather was parolled more like 10 yrs ago for some other things and now has passed on about 4 years ago. These are memories that as a grandson I am trying to piece together and learn about. I faintly remember some things but am interested on how to see or learn more. If you know how I can do that I would appreciate the info. Thank you.
I was in the building when the bomb went off. My brother was on the phone with me and heard it over the phone.
Danny Green was my classmate during freshman year at St Ignatius. He was a great kid, full of life and the expectations for the future. He wasn't a punk in any way. I've often thought about him and was shocked to see his fate played out on (I believe it was) the History Channelsometime last year. I had periodicaly thought about Danny over the years and am saddened he came to a trajic end.
