This Week On DVD and Blu-ray

It's 'Don Jon' On DVD and Blu-ray This Week

One last light DVD and Blu-ray week before the new year

This Week On DVD and Blu-ray: December 31, 2013

Don Jon
Things will begin picking up again next week on the DVD and Blu-ray front, but for this week it's pretty much only Joseph Gordon-Levitt's feature directorial debut Don Jon, a decent little comedy that should play a little better at home than it did in theaters. The biggest issue it faces, as I wrote about in my review out of Toronto, are the "redundancies and narrative leaps" it employs making the comedy somewhat tiresome and the sudden shift to drama a little jarring. Yet, I enjoyed it, these are just quibbles as it is also clear Levitt has some talent and the film alone is worth watching for Brie Larson and Tony Danza. Give it a look.

I agree Brie Larson is a reason to watch Don Jon despite her lack of lines.

The deadzone this week extends to theaters too. I think Paranormal Activity is all my market is getting. Whereas next week I think Her, Inside Llewyn Davis, and Lone Survivor are all dropping at once.

It's a catchup week for all the Christmas releases, especially with the weekend falling close after New Year's. I know I'm finally getting around to seeing American Hustle this weekend. Fortunately (for me, not the industry), most of the Christmas releases don't look they're worth a theatrical viewing or I don't know how long it'd take me to catch up.

Its certainly better than Insidious 2 so it isn't an awful week.

I actually really liked this movie and think it will play better in people's living rooms.

I really enjoyed Don Jon, it has some nice comedy and just enough heart and style to make it rewatchable. JGL is great.

I will never watch Don Jon, i don't like JGL's smug little face, it's a personal thing.

Andy, Jake17 has disappeared. Do you want to do a quick box office draft?

Ok, I'm about to start work, shall I take his picks? Fill me in with stuff I need to know as not done before. And thanks.
