Don Cheadle is the Iron Patriot in New 'Iron Man 3' Poster

So, is this the same thing as War Machine?

Okay, you have to help me out here since I don't read comics. I thought Don Cheadle's James Rhodes character became War Machine, but now I'm being told this is him pictured in this new poster for Iron Man 3 as the Iron Patriot. Are they one and the same? Is one bad and the other good?

I guess I probably don't want to know and would rather just find out when the movie hits theaters on May 3.

Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black and along with Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr. back as Tony Stark, the film co-stars Ben Kingsley as the villainous Mandarin, Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian, Rebecca Hall as Maya Hansen, James Badge Dale as Maya Hansen and William Sadler as Sal Kennedy.

haha... I love how the first paragraph is you asking all these questions and the next says you don't really want to know.

I don't know the answers. He was War Machine in the last film, he's pictured as Iron Patriot here... I'm assuming there are some kind of plot developments in store... And more toys to sell! Woo.

Donny is looking sharp. My guess is he will be made a hero after Tony is outcast or something and hence the change from the War Machine suit to the fancy 'American hero' one.

It's likely just a paint-job for the War Machine armor and nothing more.

In the comic books Norman Osborn (the Spider-man villain played by Willem Dafoe in the movies) had the Avengers discredited or something and after getting a hold of Stark's tech had himself installed as the leader of a new batch of Avengers while wearing a blatantly patriotic version of the Iron Man suit styled after Captain America's costume, calling himself the Iron Patriot as a pure public relations ploy.

I can't see any of that having any bearing on the plot of "Iron Man 3" beyond the simple idea of the government wanting to piggy back on Iron Man and Captain America's popularity following "The Avengers" and repainting (and possibly renaming) the War Machine armor accordingly.

Isn't James Badge Dale playing Eric Savin ?? Ur post mentions he playing the role of Maya Hansen...

  • well…

It still takes me out of the fantasy when Don's on screen. They should have stayed with T. Howard. He played opposite Robert Downey Jr much more convining and would make a much better war machine or Patriot. Say, why isn't hollywood trying their haredest to make Shemar Moore a major action star. He proves every week on criminal minds he can act, the camera loves him and he's got the bulk but not too much like the rock whose chest at times is so large his nipples are in the weirdest spot..(check out journey 2- you'll see what i mean, they look like they're underneath) offer him (shemar) a Marvel role

This website is filled with reviews and information regarding comic-book films, twilight films, Tolkien adaptations and John McClain. Why ask questions about these films and then say you don't care, all the while putting up as many posters and clips of said films as you can?

    Thems the facts

Where did I say I don't care? Pretty sure the statement was that I would rather find out in the movie. Please read more closely before making erroneous statements.
