Did You Demand 'Paranormal Activity'? It's Expanding…

Get in the theater to see this one

I have obviously been shilling for Paramount's Paranormal Activity more than I have for a movie in quite some time, but when you have a great time in the theater with a film you believe should only be experienced in the theater with a rowdy and on the edge of their seat audience you want others to get in on the fun. Paranormal Activity did that for me and it did it for plenty of others as The Los Angeles Times reports all but one of this past weekend's midnight showings of the low-budget horror sold out and the studio's buzz inducing "demand it in your city" application at Eventful.com has created the following list of top ten cities:

  1. Los Angeles metro area (15,795 people)
  2. New York City metro area (9,347 people)
  3. Chicago metro area (7,748 people)
  4. Dallas metro area (6,396 people)
  5. Houston metro area (5,430 people)
  6. San Diego metro area (3,975 people)
  7. Phoenix metro area (3,915 people)
  8. San Francisco metro area (3,884 people)
  9. Philadelphia metro area (3,782 people)
  10. Atlanta metro area (3,444 people)

As a result, Paramount is putting together expansion plans and will start rolling out the film in new markets Friday, where it will continue to show Paranormal Activity in late-night screenings only.

There is no word on where it will be heading next, but I urge you to try and see this film in the theaters and not wait for it on DVD. Trust me, so much atmosphere is lost when you watch a film of this sort in the comfort of your own home on a small screen and with any number of possible distractions. Sure, the midnight screenings may be an inconvenience for some, but it's worth any inconvenience in my mind.

You can read my review of the film right here.

  1. I demanded in the Chicago metro area. Chicago is 3rd right now…Do you have any idea how many of these will get the film?

I also demanded it in the Chicago Metro Area. There was a midnight screening of it Friday night at the Music Box Theater in Chicago, but I didn't know about it.

  3. @beautifulm: I wish I would've known about that.

Will it continue playing in its original theaters? Because it played only 10 minutes from where I was, but I couldn't go because I was competing in a 24-hour film challenge, and I hear the tickets sold out way too early anyway, so it would have been no use had a gone.

Another thing: When the hell are they going to make other showtimes available? Having a movie show only at midnight is very inconvenient, and it's very hard to convince friends to go see it with you unless it's a movie like Harry Potter or Terminator or something with a built-in fanbase. I'd at least like to have some 9:00 or 10:00 showings available. I REALLY want to see this movie, but I don't have a car here in college, so I need to convince someone to drive me. The way things are now, the circumstances aren't very conducive to convincing someone to accompany me.

I demanded it for my local town, but there were so few people who'd demanded it there, so I also demanded it for the Sacramento metro area, cause that's the closest city. I'm not a huge horror movie fan, but I really want to see this one.

I been waiting for a movie like this for a very long time!!! I Demand it in San Antonio Tx. I been hearing alot about it and wish it would come soon!

    @Danny K.:

Me too, the Music Box Theater is actually more convenient for me, especially since they are only showing it at midnight. Parking is very costly downtown and the buses stop running at a certain time. I just found out about it today though, but maybe it'll come to more theaters in Chicago since we are third on the list.

  8. @beautifulm: I really hope it comes. The Music Box Theater seems really cool, it seems like a great place to see a movie.

Demanded down here in Wilmington, NC.

Not much of a chance, maybe I'll change to Raleigh or something…

  10. Tim P.

Yes — I demanded it for Atlanta. I just got the email stating that cities have been added and ATL was one of them. Woo Hoo!

  11. Latino

i really hope this will get to other countrys…(Im demand it from Peru {southamerica})

  12. Jman

Because of the way they are doing things im just gunna wait till DVD and I think its scarier watching it in your home, then again I live in the woods so I probably wont sleep for years

  13. Summer Carter

@Steve Mott: I'm in Wilmington too and I'm kinda pissed that the Port City aint in the tops but from what I hear they are going to play it nationwide!! :)

  14. Summer Carter

WILMINGTON, NC… but from what I hear they are going to play it nationwide!! :) But the top cities will get it first!
