A fascinating read of influence and technique

A RopeofSilicon reader writing in as "Friends of Eddie" sent us three scans from Cahiers du Cinéma's January 2009 edition which contains a diary from the set of Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island due out October 2. The diary was written by Argentinean filmmaker Celine Murga as she was able to observe the whole of the entire shot as a laureate of the 2008 Rolex Mentor and Protege Arts Initiative.

I should warn you the diary does include some very minor story details, and I only say that for folks that don't want to know anything about the story. Most of all it talks about films that influenced the shoot, the framing of shots and the value of specific filming techniques. It is quite fascinating.

You can browse the three pages in a readable format by clicking on the images below which will open the hi-res version of each in another window or you can click on the following links in succession: PAGE ONE | PAGE TWO | PAGE THREE

Also, if this is of interest to you, you may want to check out some storyboards I posted from the film a little over a week ago. Get those right here.

  1. Scorsese's films are always great, but Goodfellas is still the best.

We just uploaded a video tribute to the "Funny How?" scene in Goodfellas. Please share this link with every Scorsese and Goodfellas fan you know or introduce a friend to it.
    Thanks, BFD Animation.
