Depp Up for SHANTARAM
Johnny Depp, along with Warner Bros., have a mutual interest in "Shantaram: A Novel," written by Gregory David Roberts and scheduled for publication next week. The yet-to-hit-the-shelves book was part of a deal worth what has been said to be $1-2 million and will be produced as a starring vehicle for Depp, who would be playing the novel's narrator, a young Australian man who escapes from a prison Down Under and goes on to build a new life for himself in the slums of India before going to fight with insurgents in their struggle against the Russians in Afghanistan.
