Dennis Farina Has Died at the Age of 69

The police officer-turned-actor will surely be missed

Dennis Farina dead at the age of 29

Some sad news today as actor Dennis Farina has passed away at the age of 69, reportedly as a result of a blood clot in his lung. Farina was a police officer who turned television and movie star with roles in such television shows as "Miami Vice" and "Law & Order" and films such as Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan and Guy Ritchie's Snatch after serving as police consultant on Michael Mann's Thief in 1981, which is where the bug to begin acting began.

However, my favorite Farina appearance is in Barry Sonnenfeld's Get Shorty, if you haven't seen it, get on it... Here's a clip featuring Farina and Gene Hackman.

Farina was currently a member of the cast of Fox's "New Girl" and before that had a role in Michael Mann's "Luck" for HBO. [AP]

Great character actor, always seemed to enjoy being in the films he was in. That's not really even that old these days.

RIP, Is it just me or does somebody notable in the film industry pass away every other week?

Sad news, he had that natural talent to exude authority which served the types of roles he played. Great actor.

Very sad news. He was really great in everything I saw him in, and had my favorite line in "Out of Sight" ("Hey Ray, do you ever wear one that says 'undercover'?"). RIP

Oh no, that's awful news. I loved him in Snatch but he was amazing in Get Shorty.

Get Short was also my favorite performance from Farina, but he was great in pretty much everything he was in. The fact that he was a fellow Chicagoan made him all the more special to me. He will be missed.

R.I.P Dennis. I've only ever seen him properly in Snatch but he was absurdly brilliant in that film. Definitely need to check out his other films.
