Del Toro and O'Connor Join Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Inherent Vice'

Casting is heating up as production preps to begin

Benicio del ToroLate last night it was reported Benicio Del Toro is in negotiations to join the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice, which will begin lensing this month.

Based on Thomas Pynchon's novel "Inherent Vice", the story follows 1960s stoner P.I. Larry "Doc" Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) who is hired by an ex-girlfriend to investigate the disappearance of her wealthy lover. Del Toro will reportedly play Sportello's lawyer friend, which I'm sure, for many, calls up immediate memories of Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, though I expect this character won't be nearly as outrageous and the role is said to be small, but crucial.

Additionally, Cigarettes and Red Vines reports Anderson is bringing back There Will be Blood and The Master character actor Kevin J. O'Connor for a role, though his character has not yet been revealed. [The Wrap]

i lurve Del Toro's acting style and screen presence, i did actually watch Fear & Loathing for the first time recently and was blown away. O'Conner was also very good in There Will Be Blood but i havent seen him in much else, so far the film sounds very promising

Can't wait. Absolutely loved The Master. Also, the idea of Phoenix and Del Toro sharing scenes just bring a smile to my face.

Del Toro has given some incredible performances (Traffic and 21 Grams instantly come to mind for me), but lately he's veered into overacting a bit. Hopefully with PTA he'll get back into the form he was in ten years ago.
