Del Toro and Day-Lewis Team with Scorsese for 'Silence'
Hard to pass up reporting on this news...
Talk about a powerful lead-in as Variety reports Martin Scorsese is determined to make Silence his next movie and is negotiating with Oscar winners Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro to star with Gael Garcia Bernal also circling the film.
The film is based on the Shusaku Endo novel and was adapted by Jay Cocks. The story is set in the 17th century as two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity.
Day-Lewis last worked with Scorsese on Gangs of New York and before that in The Age of Innocence.
Filming is expected to begin production later this year in New Zealand. There is currently no domestic distributor for the pic, but with that line-up I don't think it would be hard to find one.
