If you visited the homepage of the site today you probably noticed it has a rocky looking background and the usual advertisement at the top of the page has been replaced with a similar graphic. It's an ad campaign that I learned about only this morning for a trailer I actually posted five days ago, but there isn't much going on and now that a high definition version is available I figured I'd give it a second look as FilmDistrict is blanketing movie sites today with the promo. (Though, I do wish they had used the image of the man falling as seen above... I just think it would have looked cooler.)
I watched the first 30 seconds of this new version, which is actually a 30-second promo for the trailer itself. The film is Dead Man Down starring Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, Dominic Cooper and Terrence Howard and it's directed by Niels Arden Oplev (director of the original The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo).
The story centers on Victor (Farrell), who was hired by Beatrice (Rapace) to kill Alphonse Hoyt (Howard), an underground New York crime lord. The twist, Victor is Hoyt's right-hand man.
If anything, it will be interesting to see what Oplev does with a larger budget. Even one thing David Fincher complimented what Oplev was able to do with the original Dragon Tattoo films considering his budget. "I read [the book] and thought, 'Holy God, how do you compress this into a movie?' I thought the original did a great job, given its [$15 million] budget... When you have that much, it's going to be limited in terms of the scope."
I haven't seen a budget for Dead Man Down, but I have to assume we're not looking at a story as complex as Dragon Tattoo and with the cast I wouldn't be surprised if this one pushes a $25 million budget.
If you didn't check out the trailer before or want to give it a second look in a much higher quality, check it out below. The film hits theaters on March 8.
