David Slade Will Direct Twilight's Third Installment 'Eclipse'
So there you have it folks...
Summit Entertainment has just announced that Hard Candy (trailer attached) and 30 Days of Night helmer, David Slade, will direct The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third installment in the Twilight Franchise set to hit theaters on June 30, 2010.
In a press release "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer said, "I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing Eclipse. He's a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we've been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I'm so happy that Eclipse will be carrying on with that tradition."
In Eclipse, Bella (Kristen Stewart) once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward (Robert Pattinson) and her friendship with Jacob (Taylor Lautner) — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death.
The second installment, New Moon will hit theaters on November 20, 2009.

So he's moving from one unintentionally funny Vampire movie to another…huh, sounds good.
But seriously, David Slade is a decent director, regardless if "30 Days of Night" was kinda dumb. He's got some style and if you've seen "Hard Candy", he can certainly make a thrilling, well-acted character study. I'm sure "Eclipse" won't try to reach those heights, but still, overall good choice.
Well, Summit surely chose wisely. I'm not sure I'm going to say the same for David Slade. :D
But seriously, I'm excited to see what he does. He's a great director, as "Hard Candy" proves. At least all the Twilight fangirls are going to be renting that now that he's been announced as the new director, and they'll get a dose of Ellen Page pre-Juno. Hahaha! :D
Too bad that I find "Eclipse" to be the weakest in the Twilight series. I'd be even more excited to see him doing "Breaking Dawn."
Ugh, I was hoping he chose to do something along the vein of Hard Candy or even another horror flick but this? He's going from the best Vampire movie since Nosferatu to the single worst interpretation of vampires in literary history. Wow.
I like Slade alot and I hope this film does great things for his career but I will never be seeing this.
