David O. Russell Attached to Direct 'Silver Linings'
Not a huge Russell fan, but at least he is unique
Variety has announced David O. Russell (Three Kings) will follow-up his much troubled upcoming film Nailed with The Silver Linings Playbook for the Weinstein Co. Money troubles became a hindrance with Nailed, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel, but with Silver Linings he will only have Harvey Weinstein to contend with.
The film is based on Matthew Quick's debut novel and Russell adapted the screenplay himself, which centers on Pat Peoples, a down-on-his-luck former high school teacher who has just been released from a mental institution and placed in the care of his mother. The novel was published in September last year.
Silver Linings marks a return to the brothers Weinstein for Russell who helmed Flirting with Disaster back in 1996 for the Weinstein's when they were Miramax.
I know Russell has his fans, but outside of a mild fascination with Three Kings I am not a huge fan based on his only other film I have seen, I Heart Huckabees released in 2004.
