The Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) and the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW) and have offered up The Dark Knight as a legitimate contender for Best Adapted Screenplay by making it one of their five nominees in the category. On top of that my favorite film of the year, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, saw Woody Allen's screenplay nominated for original screenplay along with a few you may not have expected. Come Oscar nominations, I think Burn After Reading and The Visitor will move over for Rachel Getting Married and In Bruges.

    I love that The Dark Knight got a nomination. I think it's pretty much expected to get a DGA nomination tomorrow, so it's chances at Best Picture are very high.

    For the record, I didn't think Burn After Reading's screenplay was that great. The movie in general was alright.

    The Good:

    TDK gets another important precurser nod.

    The Bad:

    In Bruges doesn't make the short list in lieu of The Wrestler, which has a fairly predictable and contrived screenplay.

    Other than that I'm alright with the nods.

    @Scott:

    I loved In Bruges and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves come the Oscar noms as IMHO it was the most "entertainingly-scripted" film I've seen since Juno.

    Props to J & C Nolan too. "I'm gonna make this pencil disappear…"
