Dane DeHaan Cast as Harry Osborn in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

COMMENTS

Oh man, you are really excited now... right?

Dane DeHaanDirector Marc Webb tweeted the announcement that Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, Lawless) has been cast as Harry Osborn in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Kevin had been tracking the list of actors competing for the role, which included Sam Claflin, Douglas Booth, Eddie Redmayne, Brady Corbet and Alden Ehrenreich. Last we heard they were looking for someone with "athleticism and good looks", which was when Claflin , Eddie Redmayne, Booth and Boyd Holbrook entered the picture, but DeHaan, whose star has certainly been rising, has officially nabbed the role.

So far not a whole lot is known about the sequel outside of the fact Andrew Garfield will return as Peter Parker, Emma Stone will play Gwen Stacy, Shailene Woodley will play Mary Jane Watson and Jamie Foxx has been tapped as the film's villain, Electro.

The film is currently set for a May 2, 2014 release.

I'll be honest, I did NOT expect him AT ALL. I thought they'd go for someone more 'attractive', because this version of SpiderMan is clearly geared more at teen girls than it is teen boys (see the choice of Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker). But, Dane DeHaan, while he his somewhat good looking, doesn't scream 'belongs in a movie with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone'. But, smart casting on Webb's part. Also A smart choice to cast Foxx as Electro. I'm excited to see how Webb handles the character, because he's never really gotten the big screen treatment, but he deserves it. The question now is: Will they eventually introduce Normal Osborne into the series, thus introducing the Green Goblin, thus, making Harry look like a bad guy?

This kid was the mad notes in The Place Beyond the Pines. One of the best performances I've seen in a long time.

  3. SeenSome says:

He's a really good choice, glad they went down this route after all, I was worried by the athletic types they were alledgedly testing last week. The one issue with DeHaan is that he looks about 10 years younger than Andrew Garfield but I'm sure they'll pull it off.
