Damon Playing a 'Factor' in Eastwood's Next
Matt joins Morgan Freeman in South Africa drama
Matt Damon is set to play rugby star Francois Pienaar in Clint Eastwood's upcoming film Human Factor, joining Morgan Freeman.
Pienaar created, with Nelson Mandela (Freeman), an event that gave whites and blacks in South Africa a common cause to rally around as the country was trying to heal from the wounds of apartheid. Mandela, freed from 27 years in prison and elected president, decided to get behind South Africa's Springboks team when the country was selected as host country for the 1985 Rugby World Cup. The Springboks had been banned from international competition because of the country's apartheid practices.
Anthony Peckham (Don't Say A Word) penned the script based on John Carlin's book "Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation."
Damon just finished work on an untitled Paul Greengrass feature occasionally referred to as Green Zone and he is now starring in The Informant for Steven Soderbergh.
Damon apparently intends to make this his first film after a short break following The Informant. I can only assume it will be Eastwood's first film following Gran Torino.
