Crystal Puts On 'Hairspray'

Billy Crystal may not have been the 2005 Oscar host but that doesn't mean he is out of the biz. Currently he is starring on Broadway in his autobiographical "700 Sundays," but things may be looking up for the actor in the movie realm as he may be set to play Wilbur Turnblad in New Line's film of Hairspray.
But that isn't the last bit of casting news for the flick as Aretha Franklin is in negotiations to play R&B record shop owner Motormouth Maybelle.
Then to drudge up even further rumor and speculation around the production there is rumor that John Travolta will be strapping on the high heels and leggings to play Edna Turnblad, Wilbur's wife, now that is just scary.
While all this news is fine and dandy New Line told Variety that no one will be cast until scribe Leslie Dison has completed the script. The article also went on to say that the film is expected to begin lensing in September but nothing is confirmed.
