Criterion Collection Reveals Their New Year's 2013 Teaser Art

Criterion has revealed the following piece of art revealing clues as to what they will be offering in 2013. Commenters have already clued in to a few of the more obvious titles such as Harold Lloyd's Safety Last!, Guillermo del Toro's The Devil's Backbone, David Lynch's Eraserhead and Delmer Daves's 3:10 to Yuma as well as speculation on titles such as Charlie Chaplin's The Kid, Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samourai, Federico Fellini's La Strada, Ingmar Bergman's Autumn Sonata, David Cronenberg's Scanners, Peter Brook's Lord of the Flies and Gabriel Axel's Babette's Feast.

What titles do you see and what clues match your guesses?

Criterion Collection 2013 Clue

Many of the commenters over at the Criterion Forum really seemed to have cracked most of these titles (I tried to help add to some of the speculation, though most of my guesses were wrong). I'm personally very excited to see that Eraserhead, The Devil's Backbone, and Safety Last are coming in the near future. Only disappointment is that not one of these titles is a WB title, which leads me to believe that them licensing out Badlands to Criterion was simply a one-off deal, as opposed to a multitude of titles. *sighs*

Brad, wehndoyou think you most anticipated movies of 2013 list will come out. I think mine would be something like this:
    1. Star treck 2
    2. Man of steel
    3. Iron man 3
    4. Pacific rim
    5. .hobbit 2

If that IS in fact Scanners, super stoked for that.

It's more than likely Scanners. Criterion posted a picture of David Cronenberg at their office some months ago on their Facebook page. Rumor has it that they also may be releasing The Brood.

I'm certainly intrigued by Safety Last, and could be interested in the original 3:10 To Yuma (the remake is fantastic, IMO) and any future offerings from Mr. Chaplin.

I always dislike these, they remind me how uneducated I am in the world of film. Even the ones I have seen on that list didn't click with me. Haha.

Never the less, looks like a great line up,

    1. Possibly 3:10 to Yuma since the clock says 3:10. Not a typical Criterion release though. 2. Safety Last! That one is an obvious reference to a classic scene from the film. 3. Scanners, that man looking out his window is definitely the same man whose head explodes in Scanners. 4. The pink pearl climbing up the apartment...Eraserhead? 5. Autumn Sonata is definitely the music notes flying around in the autumn leaves. 6. Leon : The Professional I think is the man looking out the window with the young girl beside him. 7. Atlantic City is the woman with the wine and the bread. I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone guess that yet. 8. The Devil's Backbone is the creature with points sticking out from his back. 9. Hell's Gate is the room next to the Devil's Backbone. 10. Hard Candy.... I'm probably wrong... is the little girl freaking out because of the candy she currently has in a small paper bag in front of her. 11. Either Man on a Wire or The Circus for the tightrope walking man at the top. I'd lean to The Circus because a) Criterion likes Chaplin b) he's dressed as a clown. 12. And the entire thing, the apartment building could be The Apartment. I doubt it, but that would be amazing since The Apartment in a brilliant film.
