'Crashers' Rule the Box-Office

Comedy rules while action bombs.

I know it isn't necessarily a habit of mine to comment on box-office numbers, but seeing how this year the declining numbers in box-office dollars has become the most overused story I felt I would jump on the bandwagon since I had a little time to spare, not to mention it is definitely story worthy when a comedy hits the number one spot for the first time after being in theaters for three weeks.

Yup, the comedy of the year so far, Wedding Crashers, brought in $20.5 million this past weekend allowing it to take the top spot at the box-office this weekend with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory slipping to #2 for the first time since its release.

One figure I am proud to present is the dreadful figure for the horrible "actioner" Stealth, from Sony Pictures, as it came in at number four with a meager $13.5 million this weekend despite the fact that it was showing on 3,495 screens, that's 365 more than Wedding Crashers and $7 million less… yeah, I know math.

Number three was the Disney flick Sky High, to which I despised, but it made a modest showing with $14.6 million, but far from Disney-like numbers.

Rounding out the top five was the Warner Bros. rom-com Must Love Dogs starring John Cusack and Diane Lane as the canine friendly feature managed $13.1 million showing on only 2,505 screens.

You can get the entire top ten by checking out our Weekend Box Office page as it is always up-to-date with the current box-office figures from the recent weekend here, and be sure to stay tuned as official numbers should be released Monday afternoon.

Also, be sure to weigh in with your thoughts on this weekend's numbers and also talk a bit on why Michael Bay's The Island has managed only $24 million in two weeks. Was it a marketing failure, the movie itself, what? Let us know your thoughts on the Talk Back below.
