Did You Contribute to 'The Hangover 2's $9-10 Million Midnight Opening? What Did You Think?
What were your thoughts?

Nikki Finke just posted midnight numbers for The Hangover Part II and is reporting a staggering $9-10 million debut for the film from 2,600 locations and the expectation this could translate into $125 million for the five-day weekend. It opens in 3,615 theaters this weekend, a record for an R-rated film, and early estimates pegged it at around $100 million for the five-day. What I'm most curious about is who really feels the need to rush out and see it? Did you? What did you think?
Laremy just predicted it would win the three-day weekend, besting the newly released Kung Fu Panda 2. So to think an R-rated comedy could beat a 3D animated family film means there must be some kind of juice behind it.
Reviews are slaying it to the tune of 33% on RottenTomatoes and I personally didn't find all that much enjoyment in it. So what gives? If you saw it I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

I don't think it should be around 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, it's not really a terrible movie. But it is basically a re-hash of the first one. I laughed. But I'm probably not going to see it again. There's no reason to when I can just watch the first one and have the same experience.
B- to a C+ for me.
Anyone go see "Panda" at midnight? My theater had one, but why not, if your already open…
I and the four friends I saw it with, who are all very fond of the original film, actually preferred Part II.
I was blown away when some people were walking out saying they preferred part II to the original. It is the SAME film. Unbeliviable how closely related the films were. All the funny parts were in the trailer also. Not all that good of a film.
Same old, same old. However, it is natural for a sequel to a well-received movie to open big regardless of the current movie's quality. And anyways, this was the most hotly-anticipated summer 2011 movie for a lot of my friends and I am assuming there were many people like them so it kind of made Hangover 2 a mini-event/friends' outing kind of deal. That will explain the bloated opening collections. I doubt it will have strong legs due to lukewarm word-of-mouth (unless the majority think the change of location makes it better than the original film!).
Whatever the case, I just hope Hangover 2 and Panda 2 don't prove to be overwhelming obstacles for the X-Men next week because apparently that movie is much more superior in quality going by trailers and early reviews.
I laugh at prequels (X-Men), I think of them as ways to pay the newer actors less. Imagine a prequel to "Pirates" that does not have to play Jack (Depp) $35M. I don't see any difference in X-Men commercials then the I Am Number 4 DVD ads.
McAvoy and Fassbender and Kevin Bacon prob got good paychecks and are fantastic, established actors.
Hugh Jackman was prob the only overpaid X-men star and frankly its good to have a X-men movie without him, I never considered him essential, and he actually became an overbearing influence on the film series (inevitable I suppose).
I liked the movie, but in a way it seemed like a remake to me. Not as good as the first, but some parts where just as funny to me as the first film. I wont see it twice and theatres, but i will definitely but it when its on blu ray. deserves at least a 60% on rotten tomatoes to me. C+-B seems fair too
I thought Hangover II was hilarious.
In my opinion, the Rotten Tomatoes rating is a load of BS. Everyone is simply comparing this to the original and assigning a rating based on that. Do I think it was as good as the original? No. Mostly because the shock value of certain types of jokes and characters does not have as great of an impact when they are repeated. This is still a VERY funny movie though, which is the reason I came to see it. I left the film entertained and laughed pretty much throughout.
For me, this movie was far funnier than Bridesmaids, but Bridesmaids gets better reviews since it's a new, original type of film/genre. I guarantee if H2 was not a sequel to the blockbuster original, this would be rated much higher Rotten Tomatoes (also noteworthy that the audience ranked it in the 90% range currently).
totally agree with you steve, makes me wonder if they called it a different title if it would have received better… Should have called it hungover lol
