In a few short minutes I will be interviewing Francis Ford Coppola, but before that I have a chance to toss up some recently revealed concept art from James Cameron's Avatar as debuted by the website Market Saw.

The artwork you see here and that can be seen in much higher resolution at Market Sawcomes from the forthcoming book "The Art of Avatar: James Cameron's Epic Adventure".

I don't have any details on the images outside of the one at the top is apparently a look at a "power suit" and while it is concept art Market Saw also recently posted a spy photo (right) that is said to be the actual thing if you are interested in a comparison.

The second pic (below) is said to be of a "futuristic helicopter" and there may be more information at Market Saw, but I wasn't interested in spoiling any more of the film for myself than I needed to to post these images. The pics were approved for posting by Fox, so their legitimacy is confirmed.

Avatar is set for release on December 18 from Fox and tells the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival.

I bet its a sweet movie, but so far everything about it seems so generic.

Plot: dances with wolves or last samurai, but I guess i don't know a lot about it

Bots: Mech Warrior, Matrix Revolutions, Aliens

But it is supposed to be so special fx driven this probably won't matter, I'm stoked!

the last pic looks straight outta JP3 minus the futuristic chopper. exciting nonetheless

  11. The Jackal

Once more into Sci-Fi dear friends! Alright class, let's have a quick review:

    (1984) The Terminator
    (1986) Aliens
    (1989) The Abyss
    (1991) T2: Judgment Day
    (1997) Titanic

All have a few things in common. (1) Directed by James Cameron, (2) All feature groundbreaking/phenomenal special effects, (3) Each film boasted incredible budgets and amazing box office returns (with the exception of The Abyss), and finally, (4) Each featured epic storylines and fine acting that carried the films to international acclaim.

I cannot wait for Avatar. Can a film actually be worth north of $400 million? Everyone scoffed at the $200 million spent by one James Cameron back in 1997 – they said it would ruin his career and sink Paramount Studios with it – Titanic, like every film helmed by Mr. Cameron, was a monumental success. Here's hoping Cameron and Co. go 6/6!!!

  12. Can't wait for Avatar to hit the big screen, Cameron doesn't churn out movies like some directors but as the Jackal said he always brings something new to the plate in regards to technology and special effects.

Seems like it might be a while before we see an atual shot of the movie but it makes me keen not to know too much about the movie before it comes out.
